A 30-Day IELTS Study Plan You Can Adjust

Organise one month of IELTS preparation around a baseline, targeted drills, timed practice and weekly reviews with realistic daily sessions.

The short answer

Build a 30-day plan from a baseline in all four skills, then spend more practice time on the errors that limit your target. Use weekly checkpoints to adjust the plan. Thirty days is an organising period, not a promise of a particular band increase.

Days 1–7: Establish the baseline

Complete fresh practice in Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. Record the conditions as well as the result: time used, pauses, dictionary use and any interruptions. These details matter when comparing later attempts. Choose two recurring weaknesses that you can describe precisely, such as missing listening corrections or writing examples without explaining them.

For the rest of the week, alternate focused drills with review. Keep a short error log containing the task, evidence of the mistake, correction and next practice action. Avoid filling the week with tests that leave no time to learn from the answers.

Days 8–21: Practise, revise and transfer

In week two, practise the weak skills in smaller units. Rewrite one body paragraph, explain five Reading answers or repeat a short spoken response. In week three, apply the same changes to fresh tasks under more realistic timing. Success on a revised task matters, but transfer to a new task is the stronger signal.

Days 22–30: Rehearse and make decisions

Use fresh timed practice to check whether improvements persist. Compare like with like: the same test type, similar conditions and new questions. Review patterns across several attempts rather than treating one strong result as proof of readiness.

In the final days, consolidate a short checklist for each skill and check the instructions for your booked test. If a required skill remains below your target, use the evidence to decide whether you need more preparation. A study calendar should help you make that decision, not hide it behind a promised outcome.

Before your next attempt

  • My plan starts from evidence in all four skills.
  • Every week includes time to review and retry.
  • My checkpoints use fresh tasks under comparable conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reach Band 7 in 30 days?

That depends on your current ability, target in each skill, time available and quality of practice. A 30-day schedule cannot guarantee a score.

Should every skill get equal study time?

Keep contact with all four, but allocate extra time to the weaknesses that matter most for your required scores.
