1 minute to prepare · then 2 minutes to speak
Preparation phase. Timer paused or ready.
No microphone or recording. Notes are cleared when you change topic or reload. Keep this page visible to see the phase change.
How it works
In IELTS Speaking Part 2, you have one minute to prepare and then speak for one to two minutes about a topic. Use these original practice cards with a timer that moves from preparation to speaking automatically. The Speaking format is the same for Academic and General Training.
- Choose a topic and read the prompts before starting.
- Start the timer and use the one-minute preparation phase to write brief notes.
- Speak when the two-minute phase begins. Afterwards, review whether you explained your ideas with concrete details.
Your next step
Continue with speaking practice.

Questions & answers
Are these real IELTS exam questions?
No. These are original IELTSRISE practice prompts in a cue-card format, not recalled, predicted or official exam questions.
Does the timer record or score my voice?
No. This tool is a timer and notepad only. It does not access your microphone or give a band score. Notes stay on this page and disappear when you reload it.
Can I pause or restart the practice timer?
Yes. Pause and resume for practice, or reset to start again. In an actual test you cannot pause the examiner's timing.
Sources & method
Official sources support the format and scoring facts. Practice prompts, sample feedback and study schedules are original IELTSRISE learning material. IELTSRISE is an independent preparation platform.
